The Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET), in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Access and Benefit Sharing ABS Capacity Development Initiative, is currently implementing the BioInnovation in Africa project with a dedicated country component in Namibia. The project aims at realising the economic potential of selected biodiversity-based value chains fostering and establishing new African-European business partnerships.

Responsibilities include:
• organise and facilitate various formats for knowledge exchange, capacity building and matchmaking for and between providers and users, including intermediaries along selected value chains
• assure (business) outreach to actors from the private sector and research institutions through networking, liaison and exchange platforms
• Support the organization of providers (e.g. cooperatives, transformation, SME, business associations, such as NANCi, etc.)
• Ensure that quality standards as demanded for by users are met (compliance)
• support the preparation of annual operational country-specific activity plans in consultation with key stakeholders and assure monitoring and documentation of activities
• Contribute to M&E upon request, and support and follow up on administrative, contractual and financial processes

• deals with the design, preparation and implementation of workshops, seminars and other events on issues connected with the project’s area of activity, in particular matchmaking and supply chain development
• liaises with key stakeholders relevant to value chain development, including Ministries, private sector, permitting authorities, etc.
• provides technical advice to concerned actors for the development of value chains in a flexible, demand-oriented manner; contributes to Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) of project activities
• supports cooperation, regular contact and dialogue with partners, assists with PR work and cooperates with the “providers” and “users” (from the private sector and research) of biological resources
• communicates local interests and efforts, forwards these and encourages sharing ideas and information; facilitates the exploitation of the existing market potentials of selected biodiversity-based value chains
• ensures knowledge transfer to project information, and develops ready-to-use strategies and technical concepts, including guidelines, manuals, factsheets, policy briefs, and procedures as mentioned above
• draws up reports and presentation documents, prepares appropriate input for various project reports including annual reports, assists and guides short-term experts
• assists with general project planning and develops project concepts including preparation, organisation and moderation of planning exercise
• handles order management on behalf of GIZ (e.g. offer preparation, impact monitoring, project progress review, reporting), and supports and follows up on administrative, financial and contractual processes and requirements, in close cooperation with project management, GIZ Country Office and GIZ HQ (as required)

• Master/MSc in the area of business development and marketing, with a focus on bio-trade, sustainable sourcing and supply chain as product development, desirably with respect to biological resources and biodiversity-based products or similar
• at least 3 years’ professional experience in business development in the area of bio-trade, the management and development of (sustainable) supply chains and products based on natural ingredients and/or agricultural products (“green sector”)
• Proven track-record of at least 2 years-experience in organizing producers and harvesters, improving manufacturing processes, assuring quality standards and/or complying to export procedures
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Namibian context re. business development, industry growth strategies, trade policies, and plans and policies re. sustainable development
• At least 1 year of professional experience in pro-poor value chain development of natural or agricultural products
• Experience in working with companies and/or intermediaries
• Very good working knowledge of ICT and computer applications
• Fluent written/oral knowledge of English (a working knowledge of German is an advantage)
• Working knowledge and experience with Government agencies and within the field of international cooperation are an asset
• Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed
